Franz Josef Heli Hike Price

The Franz Josef heli hike costs from US$499 a person on GetYourGuide (checked November 2026). That is Franz Josef Glacier Guides’ standard 2.5-hour heli hike, and it was US$498.81 a person on the January and March 2027 dates we read, for about 4 hours with up to 2.5 on the ice. Scenic flights with a short snow landing cost from US$200, and the heli hike as a day trip by plane from Queenstown from US$998. For walking on the ice, the standard option is the price to beat.

The heli hike’s options, date by date

The US$499 on the calendar is the standard heli hike. The same listing sells a second, longer option, and on some dates it is the only one on sale:

• Standard heli hike: about 4 hours from check-in, up to 2.5 hours on the ice, US$498.81 a person on 20 January and 10 March 2027.
• Extended small-group heli hike with lunch: about 8 hours, up to 5.5 hours on the ice, one guide to four guests, a minimum age of 14 and a 7:15 AM start, US$859.46 a person on the same dates.
• 2 December 2026: only the extended option was on sale; the standard one showed its next date as 3 December.
• 27 November 2026: nothing could be booked.

So if your dates are fixed and the standard trip is full, the calendar may offer you the extended day at US$859.46 instead. The extra money buys three more hours on the ice in a smaller group, and lunch.

What the price includes

The helicopter transfer both ways, a guided hike of up to 2.5 hours, the safety briefing, and the glacier equipment: crampons, boots, poles, waterproof gear, helmets and gloves. Food and drinks are not included, and nor are hotel pick-up and drop-off.

Every way onto the ice, by price

Glacier Country Helicopters’ 25-minute flight also sells as a private group booking, US$829.50 for the group on the dates we read (checked November 2026). Its flights charge passengers of 120 kg and over for a Comfort Seat, at half the flight price.

The day trip from Queenstown

True South Flights' day flies you from Queenstown to Franz Josef and back, an hour each way, with two helicopter legs and a 2-hour guided hike, 6.5 hours in all with hotel pick-up and drop-off. The calendar shows from US$998, but no date we read was at that price: 20 January and 10 March 2027 showed US$1,106.93 a person, and 27 November 2026 could not be booked (checked November 2026). It takes passengers from 30 to 115 kg, from age 10, and not people with a low level of fitness.

The operator’s own prices

Franz Josef Glacier Guides also sells direct, in New Zealand dollars. On its own site (checked November 2026):

• Heli Hike: NZ$899 for an adult or a child, valid until 30 September 2027.
• Glacier Landing: NZ$699, about an hour with 15 minutes on the glacier, from age 4.
• Heli Hike from Queenstown: NZ$1,799 an adult and NZ$1,599 a child aged 10 to 14, with a minimum of four passengers.

These are a different price surface from GetYourGuide’s US dollar calendar: what you pay depends on the exchange rate on the day, and a booking made on GetYourGuide follows GetYourGuide’s terms, not the operator’s.
